Besides saying goodbye to the summer, the beginning of October also brought with it a farewell of two of our guests at Graz Jurisprudence.
During the past month of September, it was our pleasure to host JUDr. Zdeněk Červínek, Ph.D. from the Palacký University in Olomouc at Graz Jurisprudence. His research mainly deals with various aspects of human rights conflicts resolution, proportionality analysis, and, more generally, the methodology of constitutional review. Due to this coincidence with the research areas of Graz Jurisprudence the exchange with Zdeněk was especially fruitful.
Marcus Schnetter, a PhD student and research assistant at the DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich "Recht und Literatur" at the Westfalian Wilhelms University Münster in the project "Begründung und Geltung in Recht und Literatur", stayed with Graz Jurisprudence throughout August and September 2021. During his time here, Marcus worked on his PhD thesis (working title: Der juristische Streit. Begründungsstrukturen aus rechtsrhetorischer Perspektive) and at the end of his stay he presented his findings under the title "Die Rhetorik des VfGH im Charta-Erkenntnis 2012".
We hope we will be able to meet both Zdeněk and Marcus again soon in person and are already looking very much forward to at least meeting remotely for Zdeněk's presentation in our GJ Workshop Series. On the 3rd of November, 2021, 5 p.m. CEST Zdeněk will present to us his current research under the title Proportionality, Balancing and Legal Certainty: Deflecting the Ad Hoc Objection via Zoom (details to this event will be published on our social media channels).
