Markus Steppan sees the development of law as a dynamic process that is characterised by ethical, societal, social and economic aspects. Only those who know the legal past can meaningfully shape the law in the present and future. Photo: Uni Graz/Radlinger

Markus Steppan

Markus Steppan is a legal historian with a wide range of interests. His research focuses on the development of private law, in particular family law and the development of criminal law. Both areas of research deliberately create links to current issues such as extramarital relationships and sexual criminal law. In the "Agricultural Law" project, he answered the question: "Why is a cow not allowed in the forest?" He is also a long-standing advisor and expert in questions of inter-university cooperation.(NAWI Graz and BioTechMed Graz).
For ten years, until 2021, he organized and moderated the Politik Café Graz with guests from politics, television, business and law.
