Martin Polaschek

Martin Polaschek has been back at the Department of the Foundations of Law since March 2025. His work focuses on contemporary legal history and research into federalism and local government. Martin Polaschek was Vice-Rector of the University of Graz from 2003 to 2019 and Rector from October 2019 to December 2021. From 6 December 2021 to 3 March 2025, he was the ÖVP's nominated non-party Federal Minister of Education, Science and Research. 
He is a proven expert in higher education management and teacher training, among other things.

  • 1997: Die Bezirksvertretungen in der Steiermark zwischen 1918 und 1938. Demokratische Selbstverwaltung oder überflüssige Behörde?

  • 1999: Föderalismus als Wert? Eine Studie zu Reformmöglichkeiten des österreichischen Bundesstaates
  • 2002: Die Zukunft der Gemeinden im Bundesstaat: eine Umfrage unter Österreichs Bürgermeistern, gemeinsam mit Herbert Schwetz
  • 2004: Widerstand für eine Demokratie: 12. Februar 1934, gemeinsam mit Werner Anzenberger
