The Institute of the Foundations of Law consists of six departments: Roman Law - History of Law and European Legal Development - Philosophy of Law - Sociology of Law, Legal Policy, Negotiation and Mediation Research - Law and IT - Global Governance. With this diversity, we want to live up to our claim of learning from the past in order to better understand the challenges of the present and the future. We follow not only Austrian, but also European and global legal developments, link legal traditions with legal innovations and conduct research into the gender dimensions of law, conflict dynamics and peace conditions in the interpersonal and international spheres. In this sense, we provide students with comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of law not only for their further studies, but also for their future careers.
